دفتر پنجم - بخش ۴ - در حجره گشادن مصطفی علیه‌السلام بر مهمان و خود را پنهان کردن تا او خیال گشاینده را نبیند و خجل شود و گستاخ بیرون رود / Book Five — Section 4 — On Mustafa, Peace Be Upon Him, Opening the Chamber Door for the Guest and Hiding Himself So That He (the Guest) Might Not See the One Who Opened It, Feel Ashamed, and Go Out Boldly

مصطفی صبح آمد و در را گشاد
صبح آن گمراه را او راه داد

در گشاد و گشت پنهان مصطفی
تا نگردد شرمسار آن مبتلا

تا برون آید رود گستاخ او
تا نبیند درگشا را پشت و رو

یا نهان شد در پس چیزی و یا
از ویش پوشید دامان خدا

صبغة الله گاه پوشیده کند
پرده بی چون بر آن ناظر تند

تا نبیند خصم را پهلوی خویش
قدرت یزدان از آن بیشست بیش

مصطفی می دید احوال شبش
لیک مانع بود فرمان ربش

تا که پیش از خبط بگشاید رهی
تا نیفتد زان فضیحت در چهی

لیک حکمت بود و امر آسمان
تا ببیند خویشتن را او چنان

بس عداوتها که آن یاری بود
بس خرابیها که معماری بود

جامه خواب پر حدث را یک فضول
قاصدا آورد در پیش رسول

که چنین کرده ست مهمانت ببین
خنده ای زد رحمة للعالمین

که بیار آن مطهره اینجا به پیش
تا بشویم جمله را با دست خویش

هر کسی می جست کز بهر خدا
جان ما و جسم ما قربان ترا

ما بشوییم این حدث را تو بهل
کار دستست این نمط نه کار دل

ای لعمرک مر ترا حق عمر خواند
پس خلیفه کرد و بر کرسی نشاند

ما برای خدمت تو می زییم
چون تو خدمت می کنی پس ما چه ایم

گفت آن دانم و لیک این ساعتیست
که درین شستن به خویشم حکمتیست

منتظر بودند کاین قول نبیست
تا پدید آید که این اسرار چیست

او به جد می شست آن احداث را
خاص ز امر حق نه تقلید و ریا

که دلش می گفت کین را تو بشو
که درین جا هست حکمت تو بتو

English translation

Mustafa came in the morning and opened the door; In the morning, he showed the way to that strayed one. He opened the door and Mustafa hid himself, So that the afflicted one would not be embarrassed. So that he may come out and go boldly, So that he would not see the front or back of the door-opener. Either he hid behind something, or The skirt of God concealed him from him. The dye of God sometimes conceals, Spinning an unconditioned veil over the observer, So that one does not see the adversary at their side; The power of God is greater than even that, far greater. Mustafa was seeing the state of his night, But the command of his Lord was preventing him. So that before his blunder, he might open a path, Lest he fall into a well from that disgrace. But it was wisdom and the command of heaven, That he should see himself in that state. Many an enmity is actually friendship; Many a destruction is actually rebuilding. A meddlesome person deliberately brought the bedsheet filled with impurities Before the Messenger, Saying, 'See what your guest has done!' The Mercy to the Worlds smiled, Saying, 'Bring that ewer here to the front, So that I may wash it all with my own hands.' Everyone rushed forward, crying, 'For God's sake, Our souls and our bodies be sacrificed for you! Let us wash this impurity, leave it be; This kind of work is for our hands, not for your heart. O you whose life God swore by, Then made you caliph and seated you on the throne, We live to serve you; If you do the serving, then what are we?' He said, 'I know that, but this is a moment In which there is a wisdom of my own in this washing.' They waited, knowing this was the Prophet's word, Until it should become clear what these secrets are. He was washing those impurities with earnest dedication, Specifically by the command of God, not out of imitation or hypocrisy. For his heart was telling him, 'Wash this, For herein lies layer upon layer of wisdom.'
