Original content

English translation

This prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, and holy struggle Are all the bearing of witness to one's belief. This almsgiving, gift-giving, and abandonment of envy Are also the bearing of witness to one's secret heart. The spread table and the feast are for demonstrating truthfulness: 'O noble ones, we have become sincere with you.' Gifts, presents, and offerings Become witnesses that 'I am pleased with you.' Whoever strives with wealth or enchantment Is saying: 'I have a jewel inside.' 'I have a jewel of piety or generosity'; This almsgiving and fasting are witnesses to both. Fasting says: 'He practiced piety regarding what is lawful; Know that he has no connection to what is forbidden.' And his almsgiving says: 'Since he gives from his own wealth, How could he steal from his coreligionists?' But if he acts through trickery, then those two witnesses Are discredited in the court of Divine Justice. The hunter is a hunter even if he scatters grain; It is not out of mercy and generosity, but for the catch. The cat is a faster during its fasting, Pretending to sleep for the sake of raw prey. By this crookedness, it has made a hundred nations suspicious, And brought a bad name to the people of generosity and fasting. Despite his crooked weaving, the grace of God Eventually purifies him of all of this. His Mercy has preceded that deception, Giving a light that even the full moon does not possess. God has washed his striving clean of this mixture, His Mercy has bathed him of this confusion, So that His Forgiving nature may become manifest, And the Forgiver may grant him comprehensive forgiveness. Water rained from the sky for this very purpose: To cleanse the polluted from their impurity.
