لیک گر باشد طبیبش نور حق
نیست از پیری و تب نقصان و دق

سستی او هست چون سستی مست
که اندر آن سستیش رشک رستمست

گر بمیرد استخوانش غرق ذوق
ذره ذره ش در شعاع نور شوق

وآنک آنش نیست باغ بی ثمر
که خزانش می کند زیر و زبر

گل نماند خارها ماند سیاه
زرد و بی مغز آمده چون تل کاه

تا چه زلت کرد آن باغ ای خدا
که ازو این حله ها گردد جدا

خویشتن را دید و دید خویشتن
زهر قتالست هین ای ممتحن

شاهدی کز عشق او عالم گریست
عالمش می راند از خود جرم چیست

جرم آنک زیور عاریه بست
کرد دعوی کین حلل ملک منست

واستانیم آن که تا داند یقین
خرمن آن ماست خوبان دانه چین

تا بداند کان حلل عاریه بود
پرتوی بود آن ز خورشید وجود

آن جمال و قدرت و فضل و هنر
ز آفتاب حسن کرد این سو سفر

باز می گردند چون استارها
نور آن خورشید ازین دیوارها

پرتو خورشید شد وا جایگاه
ماند هر دیوار تاریک و سیاه

آنک کرد او در رخ خوبانت دنگ
نور خورشیدست از شیشه سه رنگ

شیشه های رنگ رنگ آن نور را
می نمایند این چنین رنگین بما

چون نماند شیشه های رنگ رنگ
نور بی رنگت کند آنگاه دنگ

خوی کن بی شیشه دیدن نور را
تا چو شیشه بشکند نبود عمی

قانعی با دانش آموخته
در چراغ غیر چشم افروخته

او چراغ خویش برباید که تا
تو بدانی مستعیری نی فتا

گر تو کردی شکر و سعی مجتهد
غم مخور که صد چنان بازت دهد

ور نکردی شکر اکنون خون گری
که شدست آن حسن از کافر بری

امة الکفران اضل اعمالهم
امة الایمان اصلح بالهم

گم شد از بی شکر خوبی و هنر
که دگر هرگز نبیند زان اثر

خویشی و بی خویشی و سکر وداد
رفت زان سان که نیاردشان به یاد

که اضل اعمالهم ای کافران
جستن کامست از هر کام ران

جز ز اهل شکر و اصحاب وفا
که مریشان راست دولت در قفا

دولت رفته کجا قوت دهد
دولت آینده خاصیت دهد

قرض ده زین دولت اندر اقرضوا
تا که صد دولت ببینی پیش رو

اندکی زین شرب کم کن بهر خویش
تا که حوض کوثری یابی به پیش

جرعه بر خاک وفا آنکس که ریخت
کی تواند صید دولت زو گریخت

خوش کند دلشان که اصلح بالهم
رد من بعد التوی انزالهم

ای اجل وی ترک غارت ساز ده
هر چه بردی زین شکوران باز ده

وا دهد ایشان بنپذیرند آن
زانک منعم گشته اند از رخت جان

صوفییم و خرقه ها انداختیم
باز نستانیم چون در باختیم

ما عوض دیدیم آنگه چون عوض
رفت از ما حاجت و حرص و غرض

ز آب شور و مهلکی بیرون شدیم
بر رحیق و چشمه کوثر زدیم

آنچ کردی ای جهان با دیگران
بی وفایی و فن و ناز گران

بر سرت ریزیم ما بهر جزا
که شهیدیم آمده اندر غزا

تا بدانی که خدای پاک را
بندگان هستند پر حمله و مری

سبلت تزویر دنیا بر کنند
خیمه را بر باروی نصرت زنند

این شهیدان باز نو غازی شدند
وین اسیران باز بر نصرت زدند

سر برآوردند باز از نیستی
که ببین ما را گر اکمه نیستی

تا بدانی در عدم خورشیدهاست
وآنچ اینجا آفتاب آنجا سهاست

در عدم هستی برادر چون بود
ضد اندر ضد چون مکنون بود

یخرج الحی من المیت بدان
که عدم آمد امید عابدان

مرد کارنده که انبارش تهیست
شاد و خوش نه بر امید نیستیست

که بروید آن ز سوی نیستی
فهم کن گر واقف معنیستی

دم به دم از نیستی تو منتظر
که بیابی فهم و ذوق آرام و بر

نیست دستوری گشاد این راز را
ورنه بغدادی کنم ابخاز را

پس خزانه صنع حق باشد عدم
که بر آرد زو عطاها دم به دم

مبدع آمد حق و مبدع آن بود
که برآرد فرع بی اصل و سند

English translation

But if its physician is the light of God, It suffers no decline from old age, fever, or consumption. Its weakness is like the weakness of a drunkard, Whose weakness is the envy of Rostam. If he dies, his bones are drowned in ecstasy, Every particle of him in the beam of the light of yearning. And he who does not have that light is a fruitless garden, Which autumn turns upside down and devastates. No rose remains, only black thorns are left, Turned yellow and hollow like a heap of straw. O God, what slip did that garden commit, That these robes of beauty should be separated from it? It saw itself, and self-regard Is a deadly poison; beware, O you who are put to the test! A beauty for whose love the world wept— Why does the world drive him away? What is the crime? The crime of wearing borrowed ornaments, And claiming, 'These robes are my own property.' We take them back so that he may know with certainty: 'The harvest is Ours, and the beauties are but gleaners of grain.' So that he may know those robes were on loan, And that they were a ray from the Sun of Existence. That beauty, power, grace, and skill Journeyed to this side from the Sun of Beauty. Like stars, the light of that Sun Returns from these walls. The ray of the sun went back to its place, And every wall remained dark and black. That which made you ecstatic in the face of beauties Is the light of the sun shining through a three-colored glass. Those multi-colored glasses show that light To us in such a colorful way. When the multi-colored glasses are no more, The colorless light will then make you ecstatic. Accustom yourself to seeing the light without the glass, So that when the glass breaks, you will not be blind. You are content with acquired knowledge, Having kindled your eye at the lamp of another. He will snatch away His lamp, so that You may know you are a borrower, not a master. If you gave thanks and strived diligently, Grieve not, for He will give you back a hundredfold. But if you did not give thanks, weep tears of blood now, For that beauty has become free from the ungrateful. The people of ingratitude—their deeds are lost; The people of faith—He has set right their state. Through lack of gratitude, beauty and skill are lost, Such that he will never see any trace of them again. Selfhood, selflessness, ecstasy, and love Are gone in such a way that he does not even remember them. For 'He made their deeds go astray', O ungrateful ones, Is to seek gratification from every self-seeker. Except for the people of gratitude and the companions of loyalty, Who have fortune following in their footsteps. Where does past fortune give strength? It is the future fortune that bestows benefit. Lend from this fortune according to 'Lend unto God a goodly loan', So that you may see a hundred fortunes ahead of you. Reduce a little of this draft for yourself, So that you may find the pool of Kowsar before you. He who poured a draft upon the soil of loyalty— How can the prey of fortune escape from him? He makes their hearts happy, for 'He set right their state', Restoring their descent after destruction. O Death, O plundering Turk, prepare yourself! Give back whatever you have taken from these grateful ones. If he gives it back, they will not accept it, For they have become rich with the garments of the soul. We are Sufis and have cast off our cloaks; We do not take them back once we have lost them. We saw the recompense; since that recompense came, Need, greed, and selfish motive departed from us. We emerged from the salty and deadly water, And struck upon the pure wine and the fountain of Kowsar. What you, O world, did to others— Infidelity, trickery, and heavy coquetry— We pour upon your head as retribution, For we are martyrs who have come into holy battle. So that you may know that the pure God Has servants full of assault and contention, Who pluck out the mustache of the world's deception, And pitch their tent upon the rampart of victory. These martyrs have once again become new warriors, And these captives have again struck upon victory. They raised their heads again from non-existence: 'Look at us, if you are not blind!' So that you may know that in non-existence there are suns, And that which is a sun here is but a dim star there. O brother, how can existence be in non-existence? How can opposite be hidden within opposite? Understand 'He brings forth the living from the dead', For non-existence has become the hope of the worshippers. Is not the sower whose barn is empty Happy and glad in hope of non-existence? For that harvest grows from the side of non-existence; Understand, if you are aware of the spiritual meaning. Moment by moment, you are waiting upon non-existence, That you may find understanding, ecstasy, peace, and fruit. There is no permission to disclose this secret, Otherwise I would turn Abkhazia into Baghdad. Therefore, non-existence is the treasury of God's handiwork, From which He brings forth gifts moment by moment. God is the Creator, and the Creator is He Who brings forth the branch without any root or precedent.
