Book Five - Section 152 - The Emir Answering Them Again

Original content

English translation

He said, 'No, no, I am the companion of that wine; I am not content with the taste of this pleasure. I desire to be such that, like the jasmine, I sway now this way, now that way; Delivered from all fear and hope, I sway in every direction like the willow, Like the branch of a willow turning left and right, Which performs various dances from the wind. He who has become accustomed to the joy of that wine, When would such a master approve of this pleasure? The prophets departed from this pleasure because They were kneaded in the pleasure of the Truth. Since their souls had beheld that pleasure, These worldly pleasures seemed like mere playthings to them. Once someone has become a companion to a living beloved, How could he embrace a corpse?'
