چند چند آخر دروغ و مکر تو
خود نپرد جز دروغ از وکر تو
گفت حاشا از من و از جنس من
که بگردیم از دروغی ممتحن
ما خروسان چون مؤذن راستگوی
هم رقیب آفتاب و وقتجوی
پاسبان آفتابیم از درون
گر کنی بالای ما طشتی نگون
پاسبان آفتابند اولیا
در بشر واقف ز اسرار خدا
اصل ما را حق پی بانگ نماز
داد هدیه آدمی را در جهاز
گر بناهنگام سهویمان رود
در اذان آن مقتل ما میشود
گفت ناهنگام حی عل فلاح
خون ما را میکند خوار و مباح
آنک معصوم آمد و پاک از غلط
آن خروس جان وحی آمد فقط
آن غلامش مرد پیش مشتری
شد زیان مشتری آن یکسری
او گریزانید مالش را ولیک
خون خود را ریخت اندر یاب نیک
یک زیان دفع زیانها میشدی
جسم و مال ماست جانها را فدا
پیش شاهان در سیاستگستری
میدهی تو مال و سر را میخری
اعجمی چون گشتهای اندر قضا
میگریزانی ز داور مال را
English translation
How long, how long — in the end, your lies and deceit; Nothing flies from your nest but lies.
He said: Far be it from me and from my kind That we should be tried and found guilty of a lie.
We roosters are like the truthful muezzin, Watchful of the sun and seeking the right time.
We are guardians of the sun from within — Even if you were to overturn a basin above us.
The saints are guardians of the sun — Among humankind, privy to the secrets of God.
God gave our origin as a gift to humanity As provisions for the call to prayer.
If through inadvertence our call goes at the wrong time, That adhān becomes our death.
Calling "Ḥayya 'alā al-falāḥ" at the wrong time Makes our blood cheap and permissible to shed.
That which came sinless and pure from error — That is the rooster of the soul; it came through waḥy alone.
His slave died before reaching the buyer — That loss fell entirely upon the buyer.
He caused his property to flee, yet Know well: he poured out his own blood.
One loss would ward off many losses — Our body and wealth are sacrificed for our souls.
Before kings in the dispensing of punishment, You give your wealth and buy back your head.
Having become like one ignorant of divine decree, You cause your wealth to flee from the Judge.
